Despite having a beautiful stretch of sweeping coastline; wide, clean boulevards and a coconut-lined promenade that rival those in Nha Trang and Mui Ne, the city of Quy Nhon is much less touristy.
Located in the South-Central Coast area, this big city is the capital of Binh Dinh province. The city is a prosperous one, making its main income from agriculture and fishing and more recently, tourism. Due to not being on the well-worn tourist route, Quy Nhon is a place that offers great value for money with accommodation and food (especially fresh seafood) and the locals are very friendly.
The city’s long beach stretches from the port located on the north-east to the hills in the south. The top end of the beach is flanked by coconut trees and smart-looking hotels, leading to a pristine promenade, perfect for a long leisurely walk, or a spot of break-of dawn T’ai Chi (which is what the locals favor). The further from town you venture, the more blissfully secluded the beach gets. The nicest stretches of beach (Queens Beach and Quy Hoa Beach) are out of town, but easily reached by bicycle. Sites of interest include Thap Doi Cham Towers and the 17meter-high Buddha at Long Khan Pagoda.
